How to Prepare for an IBCLC visit:

Bring Your Baby

Have your baby with you during the visit, if possible. This allows me to observe a feeding session and offer specific guidance. If baby is in the hospital, disregard.

Feeding Diary

Keep a diary of your baby’s feeding patterns for a few days before the visit. Note the times, duration of feedings, and any issues or behaviors observed.

Questions and Concerns

Write down any questions or concerns you have about breastfeeding. This can include issues like latching difficulties, pain during feeding, milk supply, or baby’s weight gain.

Baby’s Health Records

Bring your baby’s health records, including birth weight, current weight, and any relevant medical information.

Feeding Supplies

Bring any breastfeeding aids you are using or considering, such as nipple shields, breast pumps, or bottles.

Comfortable Environment

Choose a comfortable setting for the visit, and secure any pets. Make sure you have a comfortable chair or nursing pillow if you use one.

These steps can help ensure that your visit with Ashley, the IBCLC, is productive and supportive, addressing your needs and concerns effectively.
